Caring for Your Teak Garden Bench

Your beautiful teak garden bench will arrive fully assembled, finely sanded and ready to take pride of place. There’s very little maintenance required. During warmer months, you might notice a faint clear coating on the arms or top rail, this is a light touch of PVA glue applied to help the wood settle naturally. It will simply fade away over time, or you can gently sand it off if you prefer.

Our high-grade teak is naturally rich in rubber and silica, giving it exceptional resilience. Your bench is designed to remain outdoors year-round, without rotting, warping, or shifting.

Garden Bench Care. Keeping It Beautiful, No Fuss!

We strongly recommend not treating your teak garden bench with oils or varnishes, there’s truly no need. Simply place it in its chosen spot, let nature take its course, and enjoy a lifetime of use. Over time, your teak will gently mature to a graceful silver hue. This natural change affects only the surface and has no impact on strength or durability.

Quick tip: never apply oils to damp, dirty, or already silvered teak, it can cause the wood to darken or turn black.

Why Does Teak Turn Silver?

This silvery finish is nature’s own protective layer. When teak is exposed to the elements, it oxidises creating a subtle patina that shields the wood beneath. If you prefer to restore the original golden tone, you can lightly sand the surface or use a gentle cleaner. We offer a Teak Bench Cleaner that refreshes the timber, removing surface dirt, algae and the silvery film with ease.
